Reflexology

The art of Reflexology has been practiced for many thousands of years dating back to Ancient Egypt, China and Native American Indians.

In 1913 an American surgeon, Dr William Fitzgerald introduced this therapy to the West as 'zone therapy'. He noted that reflex areas on the feet and hands were linked to other areas and organs of the body within the same zone. He developed a theory that divided the body into ten vertical zones running from the head and ending in the fingers and toes and concluded that pressure on one part of a zone could affect anything else within the zone.

The foot was mapped out to mirror the parts of the body and congestion in any part of the foot mirrors tension in a corresponding part of the body. Following illness, stress, injury or disease, it is in a state of "imbalance", and vital energy pathways are blocked, preventing the body from functioning effectively. By using the holistic approach to health focusing on the individual clients’ lifestyle as well as their presenting symptoms enables the body to restore and maintain its natural equilibrium and encourage healing.
A Reflexologist uses hands only to apply unique technique and an adequate pressure to the feet. For each person the application and the effect of the therapy is distinctive. Sensitive, trained hands can detect tiny deposits and imbalances in the feet, and by working on these points the Reflexologist can release blockages and restore the free flow of energy to the whole body. Tensions are eased, and circulation and elimination is improved. This gentle therapy encourages the body to trigger its own healing mechanisms, often counteracting a lifetime of misuse.
